Dust and Noise

In mining, dust levels and their effect on air quality are a major focus. All New Gold sites maintain air-monitoring stations that monitor the composition and level of dust. To minimize dust in and around our sites, we apply water spray on roadways, reducing water use through the use of dust suppressants such as naturally occurring magnesium chloride.

Noise from mining sites is an aspect that requires attention, particularly for those sites close to communities. We make efforts to control noise, such as noise barriers and monitoring noise exposure at neighbouring properties. Whenever we receive a noise complaint, every effort is made to address it.

At all New Gold mines, blasting operations are closely monitored for vibration. At Cerro San Pedro, blast operations are observed by monitors from federal authorities to ensure that there is no risk to historical buildings or the homes within the communities.
